On 27 November, 2021, the 2nd International Workshop on Motion Control Systems commenced in the Nanjing Institute of Technology (NJIT) Tianyin Conference Center. The Workshop was jointly hosted by IEEE Industrial Electronics Society (IEEE IES) Nanjing Chapter, NJIT, the School of Automation of Southeast University, the Key Laboratory of Measurement and Control of Complex Systems of Engineering in the Ministry of Education, Southeast University as well as the Jiangsu Association of Automation. It was co-organized by the Jiangsu Innovation Platform for Robot and System Integration and the Jiangsu Innovation Platform for Special Rubber and Plastic Processing and Application Technology Development. As a consequence of the pandemic, attendees were offered a choice of online and offline attendance. Among the special guests present at the opening ceremony were Zhu Xiaochun (member of the standing committee of the CPC committee and Vice President of NJIT), Professor Li Shihua (Southeast University, fellow of IEEE, secretary general of Jiangsu Association of Automation and recipient of National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars), Chen Hao (Chair of Fujian Key Laboratory of Intelligent Recognition and Control of Complex Dynamical Systems and researcher at China Academy of Sciences), Distinguished Professor Zhou Keliang (Wuhan University of Technology), Dr. Ouyang Huimin (Nanjing University of Technology) and Professor Zhang Lei (Nanjing Xiaozhuang University).
NJIT Vice president Zhu Xiaochun presented his congratulations for the successful organization of the workshop and welcomed the experts and scholars both online and offline. Following a brief introduction of NJIT’s history and features, he expressed his expectation that the workshop would enhance NJIT’s academic standing in control science and engineering as well as improve its new faculties’ performance in research and innovation.
Speaking on behalf of the IEEE IES Nanjing Chapter and Jiangsu Association of Automation, Professor Li Shihua thanked NJIT for organizing the workshop, calling it a cornucopia for researchers in the field of motion control. Academic exchanges are always welcomed by scholars, said Professor Li, for the dialogues, debates and new ideas they generate.
The workshop invited ten special guests to give reports on the latest progress in the theories and technologies of motion control: Professor Makoto Iwasaki (Nagoya Institute of Technology, fellow of IEEE), Professor Chen Wenhua (Loughborough University, fellow of IEEE), Professor Li Shihua (Southeast University, fellow of IEEE, recipient of National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars), Professor Pan Yongping (Sun Yat-Sen University), Professor Na Jing (Kunming University of Science and Technology, recipient of National Science Fund for Excellent Young Scholars), Chen Hao (researcher at Quanzhou Institute of Equipment Manufacturing, Chinese Academy of Sciences), Professor Yan Peng (Shandong University), Professor Zhou Keliang (Wuhan University of Technology), Professor Jin Peng (Qingdao University) and Dr Ouyang Huimin (Nanjing University of Technology). The reports reached an audience of more than 300 scholars and researchers from over 20 universities and research institutes, including Southeast University, Huazhong University of Science and Technology, Shandong University, Hunan University, Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics, Nanjing Normal University, Nanjing Tech University, University of Shanghai for Science and Technology and the 609 Institute of the Aviation Industry Corporation of China.
Report Session of the Workshop
Prior to the report session, attendees joined a guided tour of NJIT’s exhibition hall of scientific and technological achievements and the Jiangsu Innovation Platform for Robot and System Integration.
