On October 17, a delegation of four representatives from Northumbria University in the United Kingdom visited Nanjing Institute of Technology (NJIT). The delegation included Robert Carthy, Director of the International Office; Sunny Sun, China Region Manager; Terence Liu, Head of Cross-Border Education in the Faculty of Engineering and Environment; and Frank Wang, China Region Cooperation Program Manager. They held discussions with representatives from the International Cooperation and Exchange Office and the School of Electrical Engineering at Nanjing Institute of Technology. Both sides engaged in in-depth exchanges on optimizing existing cooperative education programs and exploring further collaboration between the two universities.
On behalf of NJIT, Jiang Jing, the director of International Office, extended a warm welcome to the delegation from Northumbria University. She reflected on the nearly 20-year history of friendly cooperation between the two institutions, provided an overview of the extension and evaluation of the Sino-foreign cooperative education programs, and offered suggestions for optimization and enhancement. She expressed hope that both sides would engage in closer, broader, and deeper practical cooperation in areas such as talent cultivation, student exchange programs, academic exchanges for faculty, research collaboration, and program operation and management. This would ensure high-quality and sustainable development of the Sino-foreign cooperative education programs, yielding more fruitful outcomes. Zhang Zuojian, Secretary of the Party Committee of the School of Electrical Engineering, stated that as the main body responsible for implementing and operating the Sino-foreign cooperative education programs, the school would take proactive steps to strengthen interaction and communication with its international counterparts. He sincerely invited faculty members from Northumbria University to visit the School of Electrical Engineering for in-depth exchanges.
Robert Carthy and the other delegates expressed their sincere gratitude for the warm reception and took pride in the achievements made in the past year of cooperation. They hoped to leverage the successful extension of the Sino-British cooperative education programs to initiate a new round of exchanges and dialogue between the two universities, exploring more opportunities for collaboration. Following the discussions, both sides reached a consensus on further expanding substantive joint education programs with credit recognition, promoting interdisciplinary research collaboration, and striving to enhance faculty and student exchanges between the two institutions.
