University of Strathclyde Delegation Visits NJIT

Date: 2025-04-02

On April 1, 2025, a delegation from the University of Strathclyde in the UK visited NJIT for an exchange. The delegation included Kwok Lo, International Director of the Faculty of Engineering; Brad Wynne, Head of the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering; and Stuart Shorthouse, Head of International Development and Recruitment of the Faculty of Engineering. They were warmly received by Zhang Yangfei, President of NJIT, who hosted a symposium in their honor.

On behalf of the university, Zhang Yangfei extended a welcome to the delegation and provided an overview of the university’s recent developments and new initiatives in internationalizing education. He noted that NJIT and the University of Strathclyde have long maintained a close partnership, sharing a solid collaborative foundation, similar disciplinary structures, and broad prospects for cooperation. He expressed hope that this exchange would serve as an opportunity to leverage the strengths of both institutions in talent development and academic disciplines, further deepen academic ties and international collaboration, and provide more opportunities for faculty and students to broaden their global perspectives.

Kwok Lo expressed gratitude for the warm reception and highlighted the progress and implementation details of the joint doctoral training program. He emphasized the hope of promoting exchanges between students and faculty of both universities through existing joint degree programs and deepening collaboration in relevant fields.

The meeting was attended by heads of relevant units, including the Graduate School, the Office of International Cooperation and Exchanges, the School of Mechanical Engineering, the School of Electrical Engineering, the School of Automation, the School of Communications and Artificial Intelligence, and the School of Integrated Circuits. Both sides engaged in in-depth discussions on renewing the agreement for joint and dual degree programs, organizing the 2025 summer school program, and advancing joint doctoral training.

Prior to the meeting, the delegation held an information session on joint degree exchange programs, providing detailed and engaging introductions to the university profile, key disciplines, career prospects, and application procedures for students interested in studying at the University of Strathclyde.

It is noted that cooperation between NJIT and the University of Strathclyde began in 2009, with a solid collaborative foundation in fields such as mechanical engineering, electronic and electrical engineering, architecture, and civil and environmental engineering. Undergraduate and graduate students from relevant disciplines at our university can apply for joint/double degree programs to pursue further studies at the University of Strathclyde and obtain corresponding degrees.
